The Simpson 260® Series Analog Meters

What Do All Those Letters Mean?

A brief explanation of the letters following the series number.

 

A = When used on the 260 Series 3A, denotes a meter movement upgrade.

When used on the 260 Series 2A, not the faintest idea.

AF = Armed Forces ? - Used on the military model 260 Series AFP-1

i = Industrial Model - used on Series 8 only 

L = 2 extra Low Power ohms ranges - used on Series 6X only

M = Mirrored Dial - prevents parallax error when reading dial

P = Overload Protection - has a white button that pops up on overload

RT = Roll Top - protective case (used in description only, not on meter face)

S = Safety - Cat. III rated to 600 Volts, used on Series 9 only

SM = Spanish Manual (used in description only, not on meter face)

SR = Not a clue. / Mrs. Simpson260.com says it means See-thru Rear case.

X = High Impact ABS Case - Black on Series 6 - Yellow on Series 8

Letters can be combined, like a Simpson 260-8PRT or Simpson 260-6XLPM.

The Mirrored Dial was first offered on the 260 starting with Series 4M.

The Mirrored Dial is standard on the 260 Series 8 & 9 and the 270 Series 2 - 5, and is not used in the series number.

The Mirrored Dial is standard on the 261 Series, and is not used in the series number.

The Overload Protection was first offered on the 260 Series 5P / 260 AFP-1.
